Plot Summary
The story begins with Malissa Maxford, a struggling art student whose life turns upside down when she is coerced into marrying Hayden Torex, the heir to a powerful mafia family. This marriage is not about love but a brutal contract to pay off her deceased parents' massive debt to the mafia boss, Lorenzo Torex. On the wedding day, Hayden arrives drunk and coldly rejects Malissa, openly declaring that his heart belongs to his deceased fiancée, Amelia. Despite his harsh demeanor and cruel rules that humiliate Malissa, Hayden secretly protects her from harm.
Boss Torex sets a 30-day ultimatum: if neither Malissa nor Hayden agrees to the marriage at the end of this period, all debts will be forgiven. Throughout these days, Malissa endures Hayden's oppressive rules, including forbidding her from entering his bedroom and demanding unconditional obedience. She survives physical assaults, falls off a cliff, and is saved by Hayden, slowly unraveling the layers of his tormented soul.
As the story progresses, Hayden reveals his tragic past, including the loss of his brother Harvey and fiancée Amelia to a rival mafia family, the Morettis. Malissa's feelings evolve from fear to genuine love, culminating in a dramatic moment where she takes a bullet for Hayden during an attack. Boss Torex then destroys the Morettis, cancels her debts, and Hayden sincerely proposes marriage. Their second wedding, held in the same church, symbolizes a new beginning based on choice and love, not coercion.
